Day 3

Day - 3.
Date: 17th August 2014
Route: Pathankot to Srinagar
Distance covered: 429 kms.

Started a bit late at 6.45 am. We crossed the Punjab border into J&K at Lakhanpur. There we had breakfast which consisted of Moong Bhajias. They r quite famous and yummy. Not to be missed if one is passing through there. They are open 24 x 7.
The route we took was Pathankot - Jammu - Udhampur - Patnitop - Qazigund - Srinagar.
The road was faster than we expected. There is a big ghat starting from Jammu right upto Qazigund. Hilly terrain, trucks, and zigzag roads made the most of our day. Yet we managed to reach Srinagar by 6 pm.
We had some awesome Tandoori Parathas at Qazigund upper market. There are also a lot of dry fruit shops there.
We stayed at Hotel Malik Palace for the night. It is right opposite the Dal Lake and has a CCD in the compound for those interested in coffee.
I was quite disappointed with the sight of the once beautiful and scenic Dal lake. It was nothing as I expected it to be. I actually felt sad. The old charm was lost.
We met another group of guys from Mumbai who had been travelling on the same route. We all went to have dinner at Ahdoos. It was amazing food. Right place to have Kashmiri food if one is non-veg and wanting to eat something genuinely Kashmiri.
Tomorrow is a rest day.
