Day - 7.
Date: 21st August 2014
Route: Leh to Pangong Tso and back.
Distance covered: 332 kms.
Today we were to visit the famous Pangong Tso. Our route was Leh - Karu - Sakti - Chang La - Tangtse - Pangong Tso and back.
We started early and stopped at Karu for breakfast. The road throughout was great except for some 15kms across Chang La. Chang La is the third highest motorable road in the world and we were quite excited to be there. It was quite cold and we enjoyed it.
Beyond Chang La it was an excellent road with two water crossings.
We reached Pangong Tso and it is sight to behold. My brother tasted the clear blue water of the lake and it is salty as expected.
The Pangong Tso lived up to its reputation. It is a mesmerising sight. The water is crystal clear and I could see the rocks at the bottom. The whole lake acts as a mirror reflecting the mountains and the sky. As the day progresses, the colours in the lake change. We were lucky to have clouds to add to the effect. It actually looks like a prize winning painting. Nature at its best. It's beyond words. I just felt like sitting and watching the endless lake and the endless sky. I did not want to return. Next time, I plan to stay there overnight.
We had lunch at a local dhaba and then left for our way back to Leh. On the way back, we met a small girl with her grandmother and she posed for us. What a lovely little lady. We also stopped by a nallah to take photos. We were taken by surprise when an Ibex crossed the road right in front of our Innova. We stopped and followed it with our lenses. There was a whole bunch of them. We would have missed them for sure as they merge very well into the surroundings.
We reached back Leh at 7.30pm and had dinner with our friends at Ling’s guest house.
